    Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH) gives active service members two options for housing; living on base or finding a home off-base within the community.

    • Once you have orders to move, contact The Housing Management Office (701) 747-3035. They can answer all of your housing questions and provide services such as referrals, resolving tenant-landlord disputes, and guidance for entering lease agreements.

    Grand Forks AFB On Base Housing  

    • The Unaccompanied Housing (701) 747-5677 is reserved for airmen with less than 3 years of service, in the ranks of E1-E4. You are provided with private sleeping room, furnishings, bed linens and supplies required for comfortable living.

    • On-base housing for Grand Forks AFB is privatized and operated by Balfour Beatty Communities (701) 594-8000. They offer single family homes and duplex units in several neighborhoods, which all offer garage or carports, central air and dishwashers. Dakota Skies, Lewis & Clark, Red River Crossing, and Rough Rider Way all have basements for storage. Prairie View Court offers spacious yards. Meadowlark and White Tail Range are close to walking/biking paths. Northern Lights Estates offers fireplaces. Depending on the family size, specific requirements and rank, waitlists may apply.

    Grand Forks, the closest major city to the base, is about 18 miles away. The closest actual town is the very small town of Emerado, right next to the base. Grand Forks has about 53,000 people, metro population around 100,000. It is about 30 minutes from downtown Grand Forks to Grand Forks AFB in good weather. Emerado is, of course, much closer. The cities near Grand Forks AFB are: Grand Forks, Emerado, Manvel, Larimore, Gilby, and Thompson.

    Grand Forks Air Force Base is home to the 319th Air Refueling Wing, under the Strategic Air Command, which flies the unmanned RQ-4 Global Hawk.
